This fund has already ed over 300 organizations across all nations and regions of the UK and secured more than £100 million in private investment.
This funding, which is part of the government's Clean Growth Plan, is designed to clean maritime technologies, including electricity, hydrogen, ammonia, methanol, wind energy, and more.
Successful projects include the installation of the first electric charging network in Britain's southwest ports, the largest-ever upgrade of a hydrogen research vessel in Wales, and the installation of a cutting-edge carbon capture system on a ship.
The Maritime Minister, Mike Kane, stated that this new £30 million investment is part of the Clean Growth Plan "which aims to grow the economy and make Britain a clean energy superpower."
The Maritime Minister visited Hull to see how the city has benefited from £3.7 million of CMDC funding through one of the program's flagship projects, GT Wings' AirWing™. The innovative wind propulsion system has been locally built and delivered at Alexandra Dock and will reduce ship emissions by up to 30%.
The first AirWing is being assembled at MMS docks in Hull and will be installed on a Carisbrooke Shipping vessel; sea trials are scheduled for March 2025.
The project is creating opportunities for skilled workers and generating economic activity in the region, positioning Hull as a maritime innovation hub.
Innovate UK will open the sixth round of CMDC on January 24. The application deadline will be April 16, 2025.
The sixth round of funding brings the total invested through CMDC to £159 million, accelerating the vast economic benefits that green maritime funding brings to jobs, industries, and local economies.
CMDC funding comes from the £236 million UK SHORE (UK Maritime Office for Emission Reduction) program, which focuses on decarbonizing the UK's maritime sector through research and development. Innovate UK is the delivery partner for CMDC and will manage the distribution of funds to selected applicants.
