New York grants approval for 26 renewable energy projects totaling over 2.5 GW 1h6me

Kathy Hochul, Governor of New York, has announced the g of contracts for 26 large-scale land-based renewable energy projects that, once completed, will provide over 2.5 GW of clean energy—enough to power more than 670,000 homes across New York State. These projects are expected to create more than 1,900 short-term, family-sustaining jobs and generate over $6 billion in private investment, reinforcing the state's commitment to local clean energy development, grid resiliency, and economic growth. 6r1y22

According to the governor, "New York is creating competitive opportunities for the clean energy industry, and we couldn't achieve this without the shared commitment of our private partners. Advancing renewable energy is a fundamental part of New York's plan to transform into a zero-emission electric system and continue driving our green economy."

According to information from the New York State Government, these contractual awards are the result of the 2024 Tier 1 Renewable Energy Standard solicitation by the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA). Once constructed, the projects are expected to produce approximately 5,000 GWh annually, sufficient to power over 670,000 homes, provide public health benefits by reducing exposure to harmful air pollutants, and contribute over $300 million to disadvantaged communities through long-term community benefit fund payments.

Doreen M. Harris, President and CEO of NYSERDA, stated, "As New York transitions to a clean energy economy, we celebrate these 26 projects and the significant energy they will deliver. New York continues to be a leader in accelerating clean energy projects, fostering jobs in the sector, and driving economic development opportunities for businesses and local communities across the state."

The projects include both solar, wind, and hydroelectric facilities, aiming to strengthen the state's transition to clean and sustainable energy sources. Payments for these projects will commence once they are constructed and begin delivering renewable energy to New York after obtaining all required permits and approvals. Several projects have already commenced construction activities, and all projects are expected to be operational by 2029.
