Floating wind technology to be applied in new projects in Italy p492a
Saipem and Divento have signed a collaboration agreement to advance floating wind projects in Italy. Divento is a partnership between Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners (CIP, through the Copenhagen Infrastructure V fund), GreenIT (a t venture between Plenitude and CDP Equity), 7 Seas Wind Power, and NiceTechnology. The agreement involves applying Saipem's proprietary floating wind technology, STAR 1, to the 7 Seas Med projects in Sicily and the Ichnusa Wind Power project in Sardinia. The goal is to their participation in the first auctions under the Fer2 Decree (“aste Fer2”). 582l73
Saipem was selected after a competitive technical and economic feasibility assessment. STAR 1, a semi-submersible floating wind foundation technology, based on Saipem’s extensive experience in deg, constructing, and installing subsea infrastructure. This innovative solution is designed to be lightweight, easy to build, assemble, and maintain.

The 7 Seas Med floating wind project, located over 35 km off the coast of Sicily, has a capacity of 252 MW and an estimated annual production of 800 GWh. Notably, it is the first floating wind project in Italy to receive an environmental compatibility decree from the Ministry of Environment and Energy Security.
Ichnusa Wind Power, located approximately 40 km from the southwestern coast of Sardinia, is set to generate 504 MW of renewable energy, with an expected annual output of 1.6 TWh. Both projects are in the development phase, awaiting regulatory framework finalization for Italy’s first auctions for innovative renewable technologies, including floating offshore wind.
Strategic collaboration for Italian offshore wind development 3q6y1d
The agreement between Saipem and Divento unites their expertise and long-term vision, ing all project phases. It highlights Italian engineering excellence and collaboration between Italian and Northern European investors to create value in the offshore floating wind sector. This scalable technology presents both challenges and opportunities for Italy’s energy market and industrial supply chain.
"This agreement further strengthens the development of our 7 Seas Med and Ichnusa projects, which are at the forefront of floating offshore wind in Italy. Together with Saipem, Divento could act as a pioneer, facilitating the dissemination of local expertise and the construction of logistics infrastructures, fostering the growth of this new and important industrial sector in our Country," said Paolo Bellucci, CEO of GreenIT.
Kunal Patel, Partner at CIP, added, "We are pleased to announce this collaboration with Saipem for our floating offshore wind projects in Italy. Saipem is a global company with great experience in subsea EPCI projects, a strategic requirement to accelerate our projects. Floating offshore wind can play an important role for both the Italian industry and the production of safe and renewable energy. We await clarifications on the CfD system for floating offshore wind, which is essential to allow this potential to materialize."
