Sif has announced the successful completion of the first of the 54 monopiles for Equinor's 816 MW Empire Wind 1 project at its new production line at Maasvlakte 2, Rotterdam.  501vo

According to the company, the monopiles and transition pieces for Empire Wind 1 will be manufactured in the first quarter of 2025 and shipped to the US for offshore installation off the coast of New York. 

In early 2023, Sif secured financing to invest 328 million euros in expanding its production facilities at Maasvlakte 2, Rotterdam. Empire Offshore Wind committed 50 million euros in advance payments to the factory to finance the project and became the launch customer for the investment program. 

The expansion work was completed on time and within budget, according to the company. 

In August 2024, Sif announced that the first of three new production lines at the expanded facility had been put into operation. Transition pieces for Empire Wind are being manufactured at Sif's facilities in Roermond. 

Sif's CEO, Fred van Beers, stated, “It is a great pleasure to have delivered the first of the 54 monopiles for Empire Wind 1 to our customer Equinor. Now we will focus on fine-tuning the facilities to manufacture approximately 200 monopiles per year. I am proud to see that the quality of the first product is excellent and that the measurements are well within tolerance.”
