Strategic partnership to tackle workforce challenges in the UK’s solar and energy storage sector 4i3en

According to Solar Energy UK, this initiative is essential to meet the UK government's goal of tripling solar capacity by 2030, as well as to tackle climate change, enhance energy security, and reduce energy bills.

Both organisations will work together to identify the skills and workforce challenges facing the solar and energy storage industry and its supply chains, and will implement strategic actions to address them.

The sharing of knowledge, information, and—where appropriate—key outcomes from strategic governance forums, in collaboration with and industry stakeholders, will serve as a tool to influence national, local, and devolved governments across the UK, as well as other relevant parties. The aim is to ensure that the needs and priorities of the solar and energy storage industry are properly reflected in policymaking processes.

Paul Cox, Chief Executive of Energy & Utility Skills Group, said: "I’m pleased to share our collaboration with Solar Energy UK, which aligns with our values of partnership and sharing reliable sector intelligence. By leveraging our data, insights, skills, and experience, we will generate positive outcomes for the sector—creating opportunities for employers and the wider workforce. This will ensure that people gain the skills they need to access strong and sustainable careers in the sector."

Chris Hewett, Chief Executive of Solar Energy UK, added: "I’m very much looking forward to working with Energy & Utility Skills. The solar and energy storage workforce must grow significantly and broaden its skill base in order to decarbonise electricity supply and reduce utility bills, in line with the Government’s goals. That’s why this collaboration is crucial for the future of the sector."
