The project, which has an AC capacity of 49.9 MW and a 25 MW battery energy storage system (BESS), will generate enough clean energy to power approximately 25,915 homes each year and will avoid around 14,500 tonnes of carbon emissions—the equivalent of removing 8,620 cars from the road.

Enviromena will now proceed to the next phase of development to carry out this significant clean energy initiative, which is the company’s largest self-developed project approved to date.

In addition to providing clean and green energy, High Barns Solar Farm will local biodiversity, with plans to enhance existing hedgerows and create wildflower meadows and grassland habitats beneath the solar s.

Through collaboration with the council, the development will also help facilitate improvements to the public road network around the site.

Beyond the direct benefits of the development, Enviromena has committed to ing community initiatives and projects in the local area, including extending its for the Oaksway netball team through the 2025/26 season.

Enviromena remains committed to developing projects that positively impact communities and the environment. By 2030, the government has set a target of at least 45 GW of operational solar power generation in the UK, with projects like High Barns being vital to achieving this goal.

Mark Harding, Development Director at Enviromena, stated: “We are proud that the High Barns Solar Park has been approved, representing another significant step in delivering clean and reliable energy to UK households. The we’ve seen from the local community, along with the exemplary cooperation of planning officials and of the Hartlepool Borough Council’s committee, truly highlights what can be achieved when renewable energy developers and local government are genuinely aligned. It’s a refreshing contrast to some of the more challenging experiences we’ve faced elsewhere.”
