Inyanga Marine Energy Group Announces Six New Contract Awards for HydroWing Tidal Energy Project in Wales 4z6229
Inyanga Marine Energy Group has announced six additional contract winners for the construction of its HydroWing tidal energy project in Anglesey, Wales.
The 20 MW HydroWing system will be installed at Morlais, one of Europe’s largest consented tidal energy sites. The demonstration pilot is scheduled for deployment in the first quarter of 2026.
It has already been announced that Hutchinson Engineering will manufacture the base and rear nacelle.
Other contract winners announced today include:
PPI Engineering – Design and manufacture of the generator and its housing. The custom-built generator has been optimized for efficient power generation.
- RMSpumptools – Development of a custom 11 kV Wet-Mate connector system, providing a robust and reliable connection using proven technology.
- Involution Technologies – Design and manufacture of the main shaft unit, incorporating a 3:1 gearbox.
- Iconsys – Power management system integration.
- Éire Composites – Manufacture of carbon-fibre turbine blades.
- Prysmian – Manufacture of export cables.
The project will take place at Morlais, off the coast of Anglesey, Wales — the only tidal energy demonstration zone of its kind in the world. Morlais offers a unique “plug and play” model that enables tidal energy device developers to connect directly to the grid, significantly reducing costs as they scale up operations. The Anglesey site has the potential to generate 240 MW of clean electricity.
The project is led by social enterprise Menter Môn Morlais, with the Welsh Government investing £8 million in equity.
In addition, the Welsh Government recently announced a £2 million capital investment in Inyanga Marine Energy Group.
Richard Parkinson, CEO of Inyanga Marine Energy Group, stated: “Each of our contracts was awarded following a rigorous tender process. The selected contractors are leaders in their fields and have demonstrated the ability to deliver cutting-edge technology. Most are based in the UK. Our patented HydroWing technology is designed to prove the viability of tidal energy and position both Wales and the UK as global leaders in renewables.”
