The Portuguese government will increase its for the purchase of electric vehicles in 2025, with a total budget of €13.5 million, representing a 35% increase over the previous year. The goal is to encourage sustainable mobility and accelerate the energy transition in the transport sector. p6x5h

Under the new scheme, individuals can receive up to €4,000 when purchasing a fully electric vehicle and scrapping a fossil fuel-powered car that is over 10 years old.

According to government information, the incentives cover new or second-hand vehicles, as well as those acquired through financial leasing contracts of at least 24 months—provided the purchase and registration take place after January 1, 2025.

Eligible vehicles must have a purchase price of up to €38,500 (including VAT and associated costs). This limit increases to €55,000 for vehicles with more than five seats.

Individuals are entitled to one incentive per vehicle, while companies and Private Institutions of Social Solidarity (IPSS) may apply for for up to four vehicles, with a maximum of €5,000 per unit.

The program also includes for the purchase of electric bicycles, offering 50% of the purchase value, up to a maximum of €750.

Applications for the program are now open and will remain available until November 30 or until funds are fully allocated.
